Aramex brings in real-time scanners

Dubai-based express firm Aramex has introduced a real-time scanner system which it says will be deployed in its operations worldwide by the end of this year.

The USD 1.5 million system of wireless, handheld scanners is designed to update clients with delivery and collection details from ground couriers on the move, and has already been deployed throughout the Gulf region, Jordan and Lebanon.

“Banks are especially pleased with the advantages of this new system,” said Iyad Kamal, Aramex’s vice-president for logistics & ground services.

“Providing banks with instantaneous delivery updates of their invoices and credit card deliveries enhances efficiency of their operations,” he added.

Aramex, listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM: ARMX), employs over 5500 people in 240 offices and offers services worldwide through a network of alliances.

The company said it would upgrade its ground services equipment – to use the latest in advanced technology – following recommendations from a forum of 50 of its operational managers in Amman, Jordan, in December.
