Geodis extends United Carriers' central hub

French logistics giant Geodis has opened a £1m extension to the central hub of its United Carriers subsidiary. And it has also announced that it will focus the company on multi-parcels between 30kg and 300kg in weight. This will mean that it will take heavier parcels than most parcels companies, but will not compete in the pallet market. The extension, which adds 27 extra doors to the Midlands hub, will end congestion and allow it eventually to add ten to 12 new depots to its existing 23 sites. It will also allow the hub to be used as an additional Birmingham depot during the day. Geodis took over the ailing United Carriers in 1999. The company will now be called Geodis United Distribution.
