India: USPS pact with Overnite Express

THE United States Postal Service (USPS) of the US Government has signed a five-year agreement with an Indian courier company – Overnite Express Ltd – for launching ‘Overnite US Smart Sewa’, a document and parcel delivery service from India to any part of the US. This is USPS’ second such agreement in Asia to increase its business volumes. Last year, it had roped in Hinjin Express of South Korea for launching such services between the US and South Korea.
The agreement was signed by the Director (Asia-Pacific) of USPS, Mr Robert G. Edwards and the Chairman and Managing Director of Overnite Express, Mr O. P. Rajgariha, in the presence of the US Ambassador in India, Mr Richard Celeste.
Mr Edwards said that “as net commerce is increasing, the two companies are getting themselves well positioned in the race to reap the potential of these new global electronics commerce and e-fulfilment markets.”
Mr Rajgariha said that “we have worked out an arrangement with the USPS for which they will charge a fixed amount based on the weight of the documents and we will set the prices in the market.
