The Ford Motor Company established a factory at Geelong in Victoria after World War I. Not long after, a farmer’s wife wrote to Ford asking it to build a vehicle that could be driven to church on Sunday and to work on Monday.
The plant’s chief body engineer, 22-year-old Lewis Bandt, designed a coupe utility and mass production began in 1934.
The new stamp is part of an “Inventive Australia” issue by Adelaide artist Stuart McLachlan, featuring eight great Australian inventions on five stamps: the Esky, the wine cask, the Hills Hoist, Speedos, zinc cream, the B&D roll-a-door and the Victa rotary lawnmower.
Other collectable products in this issue include a miniature sheet, first day cover, stamp pack, stamp booklets, prestige booklet and maxicard set.
