UPS slash 80 mechanic jobs

A UPS company spokesperson has announced that 80 more mechanics around the US will be laid off from UPS Airlines as shipping volume continues to drop because of the down economy.

A UPS company spokesperson has announced that 80 more mechanics around the US will be laid off from UPS Airlines as shipping volume continues to drop because of the down economy.

The Courier-Journal reported on 21 May that the job cuts are in addition to about 60 airline mechanics being laid off earlier this year.

Company spokesman Mike Mangeot says because shipping volumes are down, the Louisville-based airline retired 44 DC-8 aircraft from its fleet last month, further reducing the need for mechanics.
