Tesco goes posh for deliveries

The transport and distribution costs involved in home shopping have long been a concern to retailers, but Tesco may have come up trumps in finding a way to add even more cost to its operations. The UK supermarket group is swapping white van man deliveries for a besuited butler image, with deliveries made from a more discreetly badged Range Rover in a trial being carried out in Norfolk and London. The trial began only last week and a spokesman said that costs were still being examined. But the cars carry just one order, compared to up to five for the usual vans. Its possible that Range Rovers could become part of our fleet for customers who want a more discreet service said a spokesman. Having said that, we are very fond of our vans – we will put another 100 on the road this month as well as the 600 we already have.
