Australia Post: online spend in South Australia rose 14% last year
Australia Post has opened a brand-new, purpose-built delivery centre in Murray Bridge, marking the second of four new facilities, to open as part of a significant investment to modernise and strengthen its delivery network across regional South Australia.
The modern facility replaces the former delivery site and has been designed to support growing parcel demand into the future while improving efficiency, safety and sustainability for team members, customers and businesses across the region.
The 1,143m2 facility can process up to 2,600 parcels per day, supporting faster and more efficient parcel processing. The fully electric site is powered by rooftop solar and battery energy storage, reinforcing Australia Post’s commitment to a more sustainable and resilient delivery network.
Australia Post Executive General Manager, Network Operations, Shane Plant said the investment would help ensure regional communities continue to receive reliable and efficient delivery services as parcel volumes grow.
“Online spend in South Australia rose 14% to $5.6 billion last year, according to our latest Annual eCommerce Report. As more people shop online, particularly in regional areas, we’re continuing to invest in our regional network to keep pace with demand and changing customer needs, to deliver a better, more reliable service for our customers into the future.
“Designed to improve safety for our team members, increase capacity and streamline operations including transport flows, the new facility will help our team get parcels on the road faster and deliver them to our customers as efficiently as possible. It will also strengthen our ability to support local businesses, helping them reach more customers and grow through eCommerce,” said Mr Plant.
The opening of the Murray Bridge delivery centre reflects Australia Post’s continued focus on upgrading and future-proofing its network aimed at improving service reliability and supporting growing communities in regional areas. This investment forms part of a broader commitment to the state, with new facilities to open in Kadina, Tanunda and Port Pirie and Australia Post’s $500 million Adelaide Parcel Super Hub currently under development and expected to open in 2028.
Customers can continue to access postal services at the nearby Murray Bridge Post Office and Murray Bridge South LPO. Free and secure Parcel Lockers are also available at Murray Bridge Post Office, providing a convenient option to collect deliveries at any time.
