Australian postmaster charged over $4.2m fraud

A Sydney post office licensee has been arrested and charged after allegedly committing Australia’s biggest ever postal fraud worth more than $4.2m, reports ABC. Police arrested Tim Alexander Greenland, 43, yesterday afternoon after spending more than three hours raiding the Millers Point post office where he was the licensee.

It is alleged Greenland defrauded Australia Post of $4.2m in a scam involving the sale of stamps and envelopes over the past eight years.

Police seized documents, including transaction records, from the Kent Street post office.

Greenland appeared briefly in Sydney’s Central Local Court this morning, where he unsuccessfully applied for bail.

Magistrate Allan Moore said the Crown appeared to have a case and remanded Greenland in custody until October.

In a statement, Australia Post said it was the only victim of the alleged fraud and no customers were affected.
