Murray joins Royal Mail board in UK
Paul Murray, whose 25-year business career has included spells as group finance director with broadcasting company Carlton Communications and the oil and gas exploration business, Lasmo, has been appointed a non-executive director of Royal Mail Holdings plc, it was announced on 31 July. Murray’s current roles include non-executive membership of the board of Thomson, the media and telecoms technology, services and systems provider and he is also a non-executive director of Knowledge Peers and Tangent Communications. He was previously senior independent director of TNS, the global market research business, where he served for three years.
Welcoming the appointment, Royal Mail Group’s chairman, Donald Brydon, said: “Paul’s extensive experience in business, including his management skills in both consumer and service industries and his experience of regulated, competitive markets, will be an asset to Royal Mail as it continues to drive forward its modernisation.”
Murray said: “I am looking forward very much to joining the board team at Royal Mail as it gets on with the challenges of transforming its operations to compete successfully against growing competition, especially from electronic media, while continuing to provide the essential mails and Post Office services relied on every day by customers large and small across the whole of the UK.”
Mr Murray (47), who will chair the Audit & Risk Committee, takes up his role in August.
