DHL Germany fears losing market share

German express mail service DHL International Germany fears that it will lose market share as a result of an aggressive pricing policy by its competitors. According to the company, many offers do not cover the costs. US parent company DHL Corp, in which German postal services operator Deutsche Post has controlled a 51 per cent interest since the beginning of 2001, is global market leader.

According to analysts’ estimates, group turnover last year amounted to about 4.6bn euros and profits stood at 173m euros. According to a German management consultancy, DHL Germany’s turnover amounted to about DM520m in 2000. DHL’s competitors are United Parcel Service (UPS), Deutsche Post and TNT.
