Consign Consignia to the bin and concentrate on core work
Consign Consignia to the bin and concentrate on core work
From WESTERN MORNING NEWS, January 25th, 2001
FROM: Giles Chichester, SW Conservative MEP, 48 Queen Street,
Exeter. Sir – We are now burdened with a new brand image.
Will the name Consignia really help the Post Office to reshape itself and move forward? Or is it a cover up for all the undelivered letters and parcels that are being consigned to a black hole? It is the same sort of folly that made Bob Ayling spend millions of pounds decorating the tail fins of British Airways’ planes with ethnic designs and visual migraines. He caused great damage to a
proud British flag carrier. Eventually good sense prevailed, and the flag is once more helping the airline to make money. The consignia image will do nothing to help our sub post offices.
The Post Office management and its trade unions should work together to improve the core business of delivering mail on time, rather than concern themselves with expensive and unproductive gimmicks. I voted in support of proposals for opening up postal services to competition. This will result in a better service for customers and provide the Post Office management with opportunities to diversify and increase its business. Whilst I write, the mail order companies
are looking to develop a national network for the distribution of their goods to customers. Surely this is an opportunity for sub post offices to extend their business? I say to the Post Office – consign consignia to the bin and
concentrate on managing the business effectively to ensure the future of our sub post offices.
