DJP wants postal reform delay in Japan

The leader of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan upper house caucus has suggested delaying the postal reform bill until after the summer. Azuma Koshiishi said the DPJ’s coalition partner, the People’s New Party, should wait until after the summer upper house election to push through a deal to scale back privatisation.

Nikkei reported: “At a news conference in the Diet, Koshiishi said he wants to hold the vote on July 11 as planned, arguing that the postal reform bill may fail even if the current Diet session is extended, and that going forward with the debate now would only add to the candidates’ burdens at a time when they will be suffering from the high humidity and campaign costs.”
