DHL expands logistic services in Mexico

DHL Supply Chain Mexico has announced the expansion of its logistics services for the Life Science and Healthcare industries, totaling an investment of $15m. The expansion includes a $9m investment in a new warehouse unit that was officially put into service on 30 June at DHL Supply Chain’s Macrocenter facility in Mexico City.

With the launch of a specific sector strategy almost three years ago, the company already has invested another $6m in the site.

According to DHL “the new unit now strengthens the operational structure of DHL Supply Chain and solidifies its position as the leader in providing logistics services geared to the Life Science and Healthcare sector in Mexico, which represents one of the ten largest markets in the world.”

“Mexico is an important market for Deutsche Post DHL and a key driver of growth”, said Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL, at the facility inauguration in Mexico City.

“Today’s facility extension is another milestone on our path to strengthen both our operational structure and the coverage for one of our key growth sectors, the Life Science and Healthcare industry. It underlines our strong commitment to being the leading integrated logistics service provider in Mexico, with dedicated and tailor-made solutions that make our customers’ lives easier,” Appel added.

Since 2007, DHL Supply Chain has been developing the Pharmashare concept, a solution created to provide a wide range of logistics services to companies in the Life Science and Healthcare sector.

The Pharmashare solution is a platform of information systems that manages both the warehouse systems and transportation processes and can be easily integrated with a client’s own systems. Through this platform, DHL Supply Chain can provide the specialised warehousing and distribution services for Life Science and Healthcare companies for multiple goods including medical devices and biotechnology products as well as non-prescription, generic and patented drugs.

This latest warehouse addition increases the company’s capacity for this sector by more than 80%. Pharmashare can offer customers more than 54,000 square meters of space, including 31,000 square meters dedicated to product storage and shipping capacity.

The new facility nearly quadruples DHL Supply Chain’s capacity to store goods in a temperature-controlled environment from an existing 3,070 square meters to more than 13,500 square meters, an area where more than 51m doses can be handled.

“These kind of solutions are always designed for the maximum benefit of our clients. It underlines that DHL is fully dedicated to meeting their needs”, said Daniel Pardo, vice president of DHL Supply Chain Mexico. “Pharmashare is our response to the growing demand from the Life Science and Healthcare industries. We plan to develop the same strategy for other industry sectors, thus building our lead as a provider of specialised logistics solutions.”

In addition to Pharmashare, DHL Supply Chain provides logistics services from its Macrocenter in the State of Mexico to various other industries that operate nationally and internationally, including automotive, consumer, industrial, chemical, retail, and technology. These industries all require a specialised strategic partner for the storage and distribution of their goods because of the size and special nature of their operations.
