Japanese reorganisation to be delayed

The reorganisation of Japan Post will be delayed, according to Japanese media. This morning, the Japanese cabinet approved a bill to delay the implementation of the reform until April 2012, reports Nikkei.

The previous bill stipulated that the reform was due to be executed in October 2011.

Plans could see Japan Post Group divide into a three-company system and boost the government’s involvement in Japan’s postal system.

Under the proposal, Japan Post Holdings, Japan Post Service Co. and Japan Post Network will be grouped into one general new company, reducing the current five-company system to three.

The Japanese government hopes that the bill is passed during the current extraordinary session.

“I’d like lawmakers to make deliberating the bill their top priority,” said postal reform minister Shozaburo Jimi, according to Nikkei.
