Deal to establish pan-Iberia express parcels service

Spain’s Correos has signed an agreement for its express parcels division, Chronoexprés to work closely with Portuguese express firm Trans-Go-Express. The bilateral deal will mean customers of both companies being provided with services across the Iberian Peninsula.

Trans-Go-Express, part of Portugal’s largest private passenger and freight transportation firm, Barraqueiro, will deliver Chronoexprés parcels to Portuguese addresses and vice versa.

The Portuguese firm has seven facilities throughout Portugal to guarantee full coverage in 24 hours, while Chronoexprés has 57 branch offices and coverage across Spain working with the Correos network.

The two companies are planning on working to expand their synergies and their network capacity while ensuring quality service and complete traceability for all stages of shipment.

Chronoexprés said the deal with Trans-Go-Express means it has met its goal of providing competitive business parcel services across the Iberian Peninsula for clients in the business-to-business, business-to-consumer, banking and optics segments.

Antonio Cardenas, the Chronoexprés chief executive, said: “With this strategic agreement, Chronoexprés and the Correos Group aim to position ourselves as the supplier for large customers to send shipments within the Iberian Peninsula, offering the best solution for e-commerce and providing a trusted logistics partner to assist our customers in their development in Spain and Portugal.”

For Trans-Go-Express, which started out in the Algarve region of southern Portugal, the deal with Chronoexprés extends further a service coverage that went nationwide in 2007.

Sousa Antunes, director of sales and marketing for Trans-Go Express, said the alliance with the Spanish operator would open up synergies, generating innovation while creating value for his customers.

He said: “It means the achievement of Iberian distribution network enabling us to position ourselves as a national leader in the parcel segment for shipments up to 40 kg, and freight including pallets and goods with a high weight and volume.”
