UPS adds to Japanese portfolio with direct flights to China

UPS has demonstrated its “commitment” to the Japanese recovery by adding to its portfolio of direct flights from the Asian country to China.

The operator has launched direct flights to Taipei and Guangzhou departing from Tokyo’s Narita Airport.

UPS confirmed that it will now fly direct to Taipei Taoyuan International Airport four times a week.

The company will also fly once a week to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, operating MD-11 aircraft.

Masato Umeno, president of UPS Japan, said: “UPS remains confident in Japan’s recovery from the earthquake and tsunami.

“Our new flights demonstrate UPS’s commitment to Japan, while at the same time strengthening our air links from Tokyo.

“Japanese businesses are already benefiting from UPS’s direct flights to Shenzhen and Shanghai from Tokyo and Osaka. With the direct flights to Taipei and Guangzhou, UPS will provide Japanese customers with increased access to the rest of Asia, helping them compete more effectively in the global market.”

The move follows UPS’s decision to expand service links between Hong Kong and Germany last week.

Four direct flights have been added to allow next-day delivery for packages and heavy freight.

UPS said it was making it easier for companies in the Asia Pacific region to conduct business with European customers, and for European businesses to source components or products from Asia, Post&Parcel reported last week.
