DHL acquires Italy-based Eurodifarm

DHL Supply Chain has acquired Italy-based pharmaceutical transportation company Eurodifarm. The move forms part of DHL Supply Chain Italy’s plan of “developing DHL´s customer relationships in the Life Sciences and Healthcare industry”.

Headquartered in Milan, Eurodifarm is a market specialist in the temperature controlled outbound logistics distribution of pharmaceutical, diagnostic products and medical devices. For the past three years, the company has been controlled by the “Wisequity II & Macchine Italia” fund managed by private equity firm Wise SGR.

It handles approximately 3m deliveries per year, across seven distribution centres, and a temperature controlled nationwide distribution network. Last year, Eurodifarm generated revenue of EUR 53m.

Eddy De Vita, country manager of DHL Supply Chain Italy and managing director in Mainland Europe for the Life Sciences & Healthcare sector, said: “Our customers in the pharmaceutical sector are increasingly asking for reliable solutions along the entire supply chain. With this acquisition we will now be able to provide exceptionally high quality services in temperature controlled product management and distribution within Italy.

“The proven logistics expertise of DHL Supply Chain combined with the financial strength of our Group promises our customers even more innovations and tailor-made solutions in the not-so-far future,” he added.

DHL Supply Chain Italy employs around 700 staff across 39 sites, which covers more than 500.000 sqm of logistics space.

With the acquisition, the company “will take an important step to improve the quality of services and operational performances for the pharmaceutical industry”.

Valentina Franceschini, partner at Wise SGR, said: “The investment made three years ago in Eurodifarm created a unique Italian operator able to offer a professional service with high quality standards. This successful transaction represents a good example of Wise’s strategy to reinforce the positioning of the company also through operations of aggregation.”

Eurodifarm will continue to maintain its managerial and operational self governance under the DHL Supply Chain Italy umbrella and will maintain its headquarters in Milan.
