Euro network is closer as DP buys Trans-o-flex

Deutsche Post (DP) has strengthened its hold on the European third party logistics market with the acquisition of international operator Trans-o-flex.
DP won control of the £35m-turnover company last week when it bought a further 50.4% of the compa-ny’s shares. It already had a stake of 24.8%.
Trans-o-flex, which employs 3,200 people and specialises in pharmaceutical contract logistics, has operations in Netherlands, Denmark, Italy and Hungary, and partner-ships in Spain, Portugal, Finland and Sweden as well as in Britain and Ireland with Business Post.
A spokesman for DP said; “We bought Trans-o-flex because it became available and because we wanted another firm involved in the European contract logistics market.”
“Our customers want one partner to deal with and they want to give that partner all their logistics business. We want to be their natural choice”
DP claims the buy will be another step towards the development of its European
network, enabling it to offer uniform delivery across Europe.
“We’re moving away from having to depend on other operators. With our own net-work, we can deliver what our customers want, rather than what other operators elsewhere in Europe are able to achieve,” added the spokesman.
DP’s latest purchase comes three months after its acquisition of £3bn-turnover Danzas, Europe’s largest freight forwarder, a purchase which was last week given the green light by the BC.
The adding of Trans-o-flex to DP gives it 269,000 employees worldwide and a turnover of more than £l0bn.
