Post Office closure list not published yet

DIE PRESSE 9th October 2001
POST OFFICE CLOSURE LIST NOT PUBLISHED YET (SCHLIESUNG VON POSTAMTERN: NOCH KEINE LISTE)

The board of management of Osterreichische Post, the Austrian post office operator, has not yet disclosed which 712 post offices will be closed out of the 3,200 in Austria by the middle of 2002.

The notice letters have been sent to the staff affected, but the company has not published the list of post offices facing closure. Spokesman Michael Homola said this was due to the fact that the company does not want members of the public to learn that their post office has been closed down from a newspaper. He added that not all those affected had been contacted yet, and that the list was not final as talks would be held with staff and the general public up until the end of the year.
