DHL Invests $300M in China, Japan, Singapore
October 29, 2001 — Reuters: “DHL Worldwide Express is investing nearly $300
million to enhance its ground infrastructure in the Asia Pacific region. The
investment is aimed at major markets in Greater China, Japan and Singapore,
said a statement received here.” The article states: “DHL will invest $82
million in an Asian hub in Hong Kong, $35 million in a Southeast Asia
gateway at Singapore’s Changi Airport, and $125 million in Japan, DHL Asia
Pacific chief operating officer Marc Duali said in the statement. It will
also invest $30 million in Taiwan. Evergreen Air Cargo Service Corp will
provide DHL airside facilities at its cargo terminal at Taipei’s CKS
International Airport. ‘We believe in the long-term potential of Asia
Pacific and recognise the important role Taiwan has in realising this
promise,’ added Duali. In support of this deal, a fourth centre is due to
open in Shilin, southwest China, at the end of the year. In Japan, DHL is
adding 26 service centres which will increase parcel volumes by 20 percent.
In a joint venture with Sino-Trans, DHL will expand to 120 offices in 37
cities by the end of this year, it added.”
