Parcel growth pushes Nightline to expand in Northern Ireland

Irish express carrier Nightline has announced plans to treble the scale of its operations in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Following a EUR 5.5m redevelopment of its Dublin headquarters, the firm now plans a multi-million pound investment north of the border.

The 50,000 square foot facility is being upgraded to support Nightline’s services for customers in the mobile telecommunications, games consoles, fashion, pharmaceuticals and food industries.

The initial investment is expected to be several millions pounds, according to Nightline CEO John Tuohy.

“The scale of the increase in size we need in Belfast is an immediate indication of the rise in volumes of parcel traffic which we are seeing pass through our existing Northern Ireland hub. It also illustrates the sort of growth that we’re seeing right across the company,” he said,

“Our decision will not only result in a much bigger depot but the need for increased staff numbers in order to maintain the superb levels of service which we have built our reputation in Belfast and elsewhere upon.”

Among plans for the site are preparations to make it one of the most secure facilities in Europe, meeting the highest security standards laid down by the Transported ASset Protection Association (TAPA).

Nightline, which was formed in 1992, currently has TAPA-certified premises in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Waterford, Limerick and Sligo.

The company opened a UK regional office in Altham, Lancashire, last July.
