DHL: Business Improves in Asia-Pacific

Singapore: International air-express firm DHL Worldwide Express has seen business pick up in the fourth quarter, but growth prospects for next year have worsened because of the September 11 attacks on the United States, Reuters reports.” DHL executive chairman and chief executive Uwe Doerken, speaking after the launch of its regional hub facility with partner Singapore Airport Terminal Services at the Singapore Changi International Airport, said “business was slow in Europe and the US, but Asia was still posting strong growth at about 10 per cent annually, with China seen as among the fastest-growing markets. ‘Our strongest-growing region in the world is still Asia and Europe is a bit slow. With America, we’ve actually seen shrinkage in the first time in many years,’ Mr Doerken said. The new hub is part of the firm’s aim to pour US$300 million in investments in Asia to boost infrastructure network, vehicle fleet, workforce and customer service.
