Deadline for World Mail Awards entries extended to 2 March, 2012

Organisers of the global mail industry’s annual “Oscars” – the World Mail Awards – have extended the deadline for applications for this year’s event.

Those that have made big achievements in the business of mail over the past 12 months now have until Friday (March 2) to get those all-important entries in.

This year’s ceremony takes place on May 21 at a glittering ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland.

Recognition will go to successes in categories including Corporate Social Responsibility, Customer Service, e-Commerce, Growth, Innovation, People Management, Retail Project, Security, and Technology.

Details on entering the awards can be found on the website www.mailawards.com.

The World Mail Awards have been held each year since the year 2000, when discussions within the industry suggesting the need to highlight good practice and innovation spawned the very first ceremony in Paris.

Last year’s winners included some of the world’s most innovative postal operators and industry suppliers, including Correios de Portugal, Guernsey Post, InPost, Neopost, Post Danmark, PostNord, RPost and Swiss Post.

One of the big awards last year, the Retail Project award, went to Swiss Post for its significant progress in tapping the increasingly important mobile market.

The company produced a Swiss Post App for mobile smartphones that provides access to postal services and has seen 150,000 downloads, making it one of the “top ten” apps in Switzerland.

The awards category also saw judges bestowing “highly commended” recognition to Swiss Post for its post office location search tool, and also to Sri Lanka Post for its post office development programme, in which internal resources were used to significantly improve retail performance and customer service.

Tom Joannou, the director of media and events at awards organiser Triangle Management Services, said: “At a challenging time for the global mail industry, operators around the world are looking for new ideas and innovative projects to maximise growth while keeping service standards high.

“The World Mail Awards is about applauding the best of the best in this industry, but also about highlighting these achievements so that others within this difficult sector can be inspired, finding new ways forward and new partners to continue transforming their postal services,” added Joannou.

This year’s award ceremony is kindly supported by sponsors including Deloitte, Capgemini, DHL Global Mail, Intermec and PostEurop.
