Paragon updates route planning pack for London Olympics

Transport optimisation software specialist Paragon Software Systems has updated its free Planning Pack for UK delivery companies co-ordinating services during the London Olympics. Dorking-based Paragon said it has provided a mapping update for its route optimisation software that includes the latest traffic restriction information from Transport for London.

The update covers the Central London Zone and the special Olympic Route Network being set up by city transport authorities to provide trouble-free connections between Olympics venues for Games participants.

Paragon said its update will also highlight the impact of other road-based events during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, which run from 27 July to 9 September.

A company spokesman explained: “The updated map and specially-developed event filters will enable Paragon users to identify the location of their customers’ delivery points relative to the Olympic-related road restrictions and be kept fully aware of road closures and other changes that will be in force during the Games.”

Paragon said its software filters could be fine-tuned so that users would be able to review their own customers’ delivery points to within 100 metres of the Olympic Route Network or a road event.

The firm said many of its customers are currently planning transport strategies for the Games, including modeling routes and schedules for the greater demand for consumables the events are likely to prompt, as well as managing the various changes to delivery times, unloading times and delivery frequency.

Among its customers are Royal Mail Group, CEVA Logistics, Wincanton and DHL Exel.
