Post Danmark to expand parcel terminal network

Post Danmark has said it is looking to add a further 60 automated self-service parcel terminals to its network of 131 “Døgnposten” units. The postal operator has said it is expanding the network as more and more consumers are using them to access parcels and e-commerce purchases 24 hours a day.

The network now has 100,000 customers registered to retrieve items from the Døgnposten terminals, with around 2,500 new users joining each month at the moment.

Mette Juul, head of private customers for Post Danmark, said: “Along with growing e-commerce, it seems it’s nice to be able to choose where and when people will get their packages. Today we have 131 Døgnposten around the country, with which we have had a good experience and are getting positive feedback from our customers, who think the machines are easy to use.”

Post Danmark has been using parcel terminals supplied by Austrian firm KEBA. Registered consumers can designate their local parcel terminal as an alternative delivery point for their packages when shopping on the Internet, particularly if they cannot be at home during the working day to receive a delivery. Once their item arrives at the terminal they receive a personal code to open the specific locker containing their parcel.

“We are providing even more Danes with the ability to use the Døgnposten when and where it suits them”

Post Danmark says its Døgnposten terminals are located near public gathering places like workplaces, schools and train stations, and that packages can usually be picked up from 10am the day after they are sent, making it one of the fastest ways to receive a package.

The company, which is part of Swedish-Danish operator PostNord, said it was delivering around 50,000 packages each month through the existing 131 terminals.

“We are seeing a growing demand for retrieving and sending packages all day,” said Juul. “Therefore, we are increasing the availability now, to make our self-service options even more widespread across the country, by adding 60 new kiosks. This provides even more Danes with the ability to use the Døgnposten when and where it suits them.”
