Pakistan Post Office earned RS 400 million last year

Federal Secretary for Communications Iftikhar Rashid has said that due to revamping and hard working, the post office had earned Rs 400 million profit last year.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting regarding restructuring of the Pakistan Post here on Sunday. The senior officers of the Ministry of Communications and Post Department were also present. Director General Pakistan Post Major General Agha Masood Hassan (Retd) gave a detailed briefing.

He said every possible step must be taken for providing world level postal facilities to the people. Due to reforms, Pakistan Posh is earning profit.

He said the leadership of Pakistan desires to provide world class postal facilities to the people and for this purpose the need is that the postal system be established on modern lines.

Revolutionary steps will be taken for further improvement of ‘Dak System’ in the country. Restructuring process of Pakistan Post is in progress that needs to be completed at the earliest, he said.

He said provision of maximum facilities as per rules and regulations to the postal employees will be ensured so that they could work with devotion.

He urged the staff to work with dedication and national spirit for development of postal sector. He directed to further improve the dispatch and delivery system of the Dak.

He said, we desire participation of the private sector in modernisation of the postal system. The Post Office Department is introducing reforms in postal sector, which have brought about positive and encouraging changes in postal services and efficiency of the department and this department is now earning profit.

He said new dimensions have been added to the old traditional ‘Dak System’ to meet the current demands of the public.

Major General Agha Masood Hassan (Retd) said, besides introducing new services to accelerate delivery of the post, modern techniques, including automation and computerisation is being introduced so that people may avail better postal facilities throughout the country.

He said more than 48,000 employees are working in the postal sector and we desire computerisation of postal system. The postal department has also started work for collection of utility bills.

He said the limit of money order has already been extended from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000. Likewise, the weight of parcel has also been increased up to 50 kg.

He said arrangements will be made for training officers in commercial and computerised accounting. Restructuring of Pakistan Post will further enhance its performance.
