Purolator expands freight capacity in Nova Scotia

Canadian parcel and freight company Purolator has opened a new 7,300 square foot freight facility in Nova Scotia. The company said it has moved the operations from its site in Enfield to the larger new location in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

The larger facility will help the company meet “rapid” business growth in the region, catering with increasing freight volumes, it said.

The site in Dartmouth also brings operations closer to more of Purolator’s customers, with the company forecasting up to a 20% reduction in its drive time as a result – with associated benefits to include lower fuel consumption and reduced climate change emissions.

Jim MacIntosh, vice president of field operations at Purolator, said: “This move was necessary to keep pace with the current demand we are experiencing with our premium less-than-truckload service.

“It also allows us to continuously enhance service to our valued customers in Dartmouth and Halifax.”

Canada Post-owned Purolator currently has 71 freight facilities across Canada, providing customised freight solutions and supporting inter-regional shipping.

Last year the company’s freight business contributed around 20% of the company’s growth. Overall Purolator saw its turnover grow by 8.2% to $123m for 2011.
