Isle of Man Post Office, Post Danmark launch smartphone apps

The Isle of Man Post Office has released its first ever smartphone application, a new app for the iPhone allowing customers to access its new digital mail service, ePostbox.
And, Post Danmark has also launched a new smartphone app, allowing customers to purchase postage through their phones.

Isle of Man Post Office

ePostbox had a soft launch last year, but was launched globally this June, using Swiss Post technology to scan registered customers’ physical letters, and allow users to remotely manage their mail as they prefer.

Now with the free iPhone app, customers on the move will similarly be able to view their scanned mail, delete it, request physical delivery to another address or sent digitally to another ePostbox user.

The Isle of Man Post Office said that as for the ePostbox service itself, the new app would be of particular interest for business travellers, multiple homeowners and expats based anywhere in the world who want to manage their Isle of Man mail.

Mike Kelly, the Isle of Man Post Office chief executive, said the intention was to roll out similar apps for users of Blackberry and Android smartphones in the near future.

“We have developed the iPhone app to be simple and straightforward so that ePostbox customers who have registered can access their mail quickly and conveniently,” he said.

“It is Isle of Man Post Office’s first ever App, and we are delighted with the results.”

Post Danmark

Last week Post Danmark launched a new mobile phone application for its customers in Denmark to purchase postage through their smartphones.

The Mobilporto (MobileShipping) app allows customers to buy digital stamps for both first and second-class (A or B) letters, for delivery of items up to 2kg in weight anywhere in Denmark.

When users purchase a stamp, they receive a code they can then write on their envelope as proof of postage.

The new app is a development of the Mobilporto service launched last year, which has seen 500,000 stamps sold through text messages.

Mette Juul, head of private customers for Post Denmark, said the new app was developed in response to customer requests for access to the Mobilporto service through a smartphone application.

“We really want to make it as easy as possible to send letters. Therefore, we have both expanded the possibilities of mobile postage and improved our Mobilporto app so it guides the customer through the purchase of postage codes.

“In this way, we bringing together the digital and physical world,” said Juul.

The Mobilporto app is available on iPhone and Android phones, as well as phones using the Windows operating system.
