DPD & FedEx to cooperate

Within the scope of an alliance between French La Poste and Fedex Express the US mail services company will carry postal consignments of the German La Poste parcel subsidiary Deutsche Paketdienst (DPD) on international and intercontinental flights. The Fedex/DPD cooperation concerns deliveries of DPD’s new express service, which is to be offered as of 1 July 2002. According to Arnold Schroven, the spokesman of the DPD management, DPD might carry out Fedex deliveries in Germany. At present, corresponding negotiations are taking place. The conditions for this cooperation still have to be clarified. To date, the Deutsche Post subsidiary Trans-o-flex has been Fedex’ partner outside congested urban areas in Germany. Robert Elliot, head of Fedex Europe, stressed that Fedex was interested in DPD’s clients. In Europe, Fedex will focus on international and intercontinental express services. In contrast to the American market, Fedex is not interested in setting up own ground-based networks for the unit load and private clients segments in Europe.
