Liberal Democrats bid to block mail shakeup

LIBERAL Democrats in North Staffordshire have launched a campaign against moves by the Post Office regulator to shake-up Royal Mail services.

Over the next few weeks, Staffordshire Moorlands Democrats will be collecting signatures for a national petition, which will be presented to West Midlands Euro MP Liz Lynne before being handed to the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. Former Parliamentary candidate John Redfern said the proposals could have a devastating effect on Moorlands communities.

Speaking to delegates at the West Midlands Liberal Democrat Conference held in Biddulph, Mr Redfern, who is also a district councillor, said: ìThe plans must be opposed. These plans do not retain any protection for the universal postal delivery network or the sub post office network in rural and low-density urban areas.
