Deutsche Post press release:
Bonn, March 20, 2002
Deutsche Post Global Mail And DHL Team Up In Mail Segment
New international mail products introduced
Deutsche Post Global Mail and DHL Worldwide Express, both companies
of Deutsche Post World Net, are to pool their international mail activities.
At the same time, their new products – Deutsche Post Global Mail Priority and
Deutsche Post Global Mail Standard – are being launched. Therefore Deutsche Post
Global Mail will take over the former DHL product WorldMail and process these
items in its own network. DHL will continue to offer the new products to
customers via its existing sales and courier network. The merger will allow
Deutsche Post World Net to enhance its leading position in the international mail
business.
The Priority product is aimed at customers who require a rapid, international
dispatch solution for urgent letters. These mail items are given the highest priority
during sorting and are distributed as rapidly as possible through Deutsche Post
Global Mail’s network. The Standard product is the low-cost, rapid solution for
sending less urgent international mail.
The procedure is very simple: Upon a brief notification, DHL collects the
international mail unsorted and unfranked during its daily collection of express
orders and hands over the items to Deutsche Post Global Mail which then
continues to process them within its international network. The customer
subsequently receives an invoice from DHL for all international mail items.
“DHL customers benefit from the daily collection by the DHL team and one single
bill for their international mail and air express shipments,” says Don Brooks,
Member of the Global Mail Divisional Board.
Frank Hyldmar, DHL’s Global Commercial Director based in Brussels, adds,
“The new products combine the efficiency of DHL’s established sales and delivery
network with Deutsche Post Global Mail’s expertise in the cross-border mail
business. Customers are offered a whole new level of service for their international
mail needs.”
The new products Deutsche Post Global Mail Priority and Standard are now
available in most European countries (see annex). Other countries in Europe,
Africa and the Middle East as well as America and Asia will be added to the list
during 2002.
Global Mail Priority and Standard are now offered in the following markets:
Great Britain France Spain
Ireland Italy Switzerland
Belgium Luxembourg Norway
Denmark Finland
The Netherlands Sweden
