Tanzania Post Expands Automation Project
Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC) has started a multi-million shilling project to automate its services. The automation of the postal network aims at improving the efficiency, reliability and speed of services. The project is part of a major East African postal service automation exercise being implemented jointly in the three East African countries through funding from the East African Development Bank. The $546,000 (Sh42.5 million) project will start in June and will cover regional offices in Bukoba, Iringa, Mtwara, Shinyanga, Tabora and Tanga. The TPC public relations manager, Mr Wilfred Miigo, told the Nation in Dar es Salaam that the project has already covered Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Arusha, Moshi, Mbeya, Dodoma, Morogoro and Zanzibar. Mr Miigo said the first phase of the project involved about $500,000 (Sh39 million) that had great impact on the corporation’s performance and productivity of workers who the firm had trained on system support. The project had enabled the firm to diversify services for a variety of businesses including electronic billing presentation and payment as well as postal shops.
