Roadie expands coverage for app-based shipping community

Roadie Inc. has announced that its “app-based shipping community” is now available “nationwide” across the United States. Roadie uses its app to “put unused capacity in passenger vehicles to work by connecting people with stuff to send with drivers heading in the right direction”.

“Since launching in the Southeast in January, we’ve seen a tremendous response from people nationwide and beyond,” said Marc Gorlin, Roadie founder and CEO. “People interested in Roadie are contacting us daily asking us to turn on service in their area. We’re excited to be able to respond to that demand so quickly and give our Users what they want.”

Items moved through the Roadie community so far have included event tickets, antique furniture, TVs, baby gifts, and motor parts. Roadie informed Post&Parcel that  Roadie drivers are paid over the app by the senders, and the remuneration is “based on the size of the package and the distance”.

Headquartered in Atlanta, Roadie is backed by Warren Stephens of Stephens Inc.; the UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund; Eric Schmidt’s TomorrowVentures; David Bonderman, founder of TPG Capital; Guggenheim Partners’ Executive Chairman Alan Schwartz; Square Co-founder Jim McKelvey; the Mellon Group; former CEO of ISS Tom Noonan, and H. Barton Asset Management, among others.
