Deutscher PaketDienst revises turnover forecast for 2002

Deutscher Paketdienst (DPD), the German parcel delivery service provider, a subsidiary of the French postal service La Poste, has revised its turnover forecast downwards for 2002. Earlier this year, it predicted a double-figure growth rate compared with around 1.6bn euros shown in 2001. The delivery volume, which was originally expected to rise by 8 per cent, is now expected to increase by 4 per cent.

DPD, Europe’s third-largest parcel delivery company, does not publish earnings, but reports that it still shows profits, although profitability has slipped. Price increases are planned in spite of a slip in demand, as the company aims to end the price war in the sector. DPD gives the current economic climate as the chief reason for the revision of its annual forecast.
