Ofcom invites views on ‘Boxing Day’ exception proposal

Ofcom has published a consultation on a proposal for Boxing Day to be designated as an exception to the universal postal service when it falls on a Saturday. The regulator was following up on a request from Royal Mail.

In a statement issued today (30 July) Ofcom said that it was “minded to agree to Royal Mail’s request” – and is therefore inviting stakeholders’ views on the proposal.

Royal Mail has asked that the exception should begin this year, when Boxing Day (26 December) will fall on a Saturday. Boxing Day – the day after Christmas Day – is a national ‘Bank Holiday’ .

The closing date for responses is 10 September 2015.
