Amazon reportedly looking to lease 20 jet planes
Amazon may be negotiating to lease 20 Boeing 767 jet planes in order to launch its own air cargo service, according to US media sources. An article published in the Seattle Times yesterday (17 December) claimed that the reports stemmed from “cargo industry executive”.
As Post&Parcel reported in November, industry sources have claimed that Amazon has already been involved in an trial air cargo project operating out of the Wilmington Air Park in Ohio.
The reports about the potential air cargo venture have not been confirmed by Amazon, but the online retail giant has been expanding its transport infrastructure on the grounds. The company is widely reported to have bought thousands of new trailers which will shuttle goods between its US warehouses and move them onto to its delivery and sortation stations.
