Airborne Express enhances international express services
Airborne, Inc. is enhancing International Express, its door-to-door, time definite global service, by more than doubling maximum weight and increasing maximum size measurements. (10/8/2002)
Effective immediately, Airborne Express will accept International Express shipments weighing up to 150 pounds per piece, with a maximum girth of 130 inches. Previous limits were 70 pounds per piece, with a maximum girth of 108 inches.
“This service enhancement is expected to help improve Airborne’s competitive position among international express carriers,” said Bruce Grout, Senior Vice President of International Services. “It creates yet another option for those who require rapid delivery for many shipments previously excluded from Airborne International Express service due to their weight or size.”
The new size and weight maximums are the latest in a continuing series of enhancements to Airborne International Express, which provides service to more than 200 countries within 24 to 96 hours. In September, Airborne centralized its customs brokerage service at its sort facility in Wilmington, Ohio. This change will improve customer service and provide Airborne with greater regulatory control. Upon arrival in Wilmington, on-site U.S. Customs inspectors clear shipments from Canada, Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East, for immediate placement into Airborne’s domestic delivery network.
Airborne Express is the only carrier to own and operate its own airline facility, operated by its subsidiary, ABX Air, Inc.
