Australia Post teams up with Data61
Australia Post is teaming up with CSIRO’s Data61 in a move which it says will help drive its “transformation to an eCommerce and eGovernment services company”. In a statement issued yesterday (29 February), Australia Post said that it will work with Data61 across three “priority areas”:
- Trusted services
Making it easier and safer for customers to use services online and in-store by building easy to use services backed by advanced cyber capabilities - Digital government services
Improving how Australian citizens can access and utilise government services when and where they need, with in market trials of new technology that transforms how citizens can access government services in regional, remote and metropolitan areas - The future of logistics
Applying expertise and insight to the data from our trucks and parcel deliveries, to drive advances in supply chain management and methods of delivery
Australia Post Managing Director and Group CEO Ahmed Fahour said the partnership will allow Australia Post to maximise its e-commerce expertise by collaborating with some of the country’s best data and innovation experts.
“We are continuing to directly invest in ideas that will improve the lives of our customers and our partnership with Data61 further demonstrates this,” said Fahour.
“This business-driven approach will bring short-term teams together to understand what does and doesn’t work for our customers.
“Our first trial will allow us to deliver a range of e-Government services to customers in up to 20 areas of isolation or social disadvantage, resulting in improved convenience without having to travel to other service centres.
“As a major e-commerce business, innovation is part of our future. We need to continue to respond quickly to the ongoing shift in consumer behaviour towards digital channels.”
Data61’s CEO, Adrian Turner, commented: “Australia Post is one of the country’s largest supporters of eCommerce – working together will give us the ability to unleash the potential in Australian industry by establishing a stronger local and global presence and delivering solutions that contribute to the nation’s economic growth and prosperity.
“This is a strategic digital transformation process of national significance, and we are focused on delivering high impact outcomes that will boost Australia Post’s offering as an eCommerce and eGovernment service provider.”
Australia Post added that the partnership with Data61 builds on the $20m e-commerce innovation fund which it announce in October.
Data61 was established in 2015, as a merger between the digital productivity arm of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and National ICT Australia (NICTA). It takes its name from Australia’s international telephone dialling code – “to signify a globally-based mindset for the new organisation”.
