Grab and Lippo team up in Indonesia

Ride-hailing app Grab and Indonesian conglomerate Lippo Group have announced a new strategic partnership that will see Grab provide delivery services to support Lippo’s e-commerce website MatahariMall. In a statement issued by both companies today (21 March), Emisyah Satar, Executive Director, Lippo Group, said: “Lippo Group has been dedicated to improving infrastructure and providing value-add services to Indonesians for over 50 years.

“We are proud to partner with Grab, and believe that the joining of forces of two of the leading Southeast Asian tech and Internet companies will contribute to Indonesia’s continued economic growth.”

The timing of the announcement is a little unfortunate, as thousands of traditional cab drivers are expected to organize a demonstration in Jakarta tomorrow to show their opposition to Grab and Uber – which they claim represent a threat to their livelihoods.
