South African postal strike

South African postal strike

South Africa’s Communication Workers Union (CWU) is organizing a strike among South African Post Office (Sapo) employees this week. Sources at the CWU told Post&Parcel this morning that picketing of Sapo facilities is taking place today (5 May), and full strike action is scheduled for tomorrow.

The CWU’s postal members are demanding salary increases that they claim have not been forthcoming for the past two years and for casual employees to receive permanent contracts.

As previously reported, Sapo’s CEO Mark BarnesĀ told a parliamentary committee in April that the post could face severe financial problems if it does not receive more funding.
