Exel Named Lead Logistics Provider for Scotts

Exel, has been named the Lead Logistics Provider (LLP) for The Scotts Company’s U.S. consumer brands, including Scotts, Miracle-Gro and Ortho. Scotts, the provider in the consumer lawn and garden industry, will utilize Exel’s expertise in strategic planning and integration to help re-engineer the company’s transportation and distribution systems.

Exel will deliver an integrated solution involving the storage and transportation of Scotts’ products moving from suppliers to distribution centers and finally to retailers. Expected results include additional freight management efficiencies, increased customer service, improved shipping processes and improved network systems.

“We are very pleased that Scotts has chosen Exel as its LLP,” said Joe Puleo, senior vice president, Exel. “Our mission is to deliver an integrated approach that synchronizes Scotts logistics network, resulting in reduced costs and improved customer satisfaction throughout its national supply chain network.”

Exel will administer Scotts’ national transportation management services from Exel’s Load Planning Center in Memphis, Tenn., where transportation management software will provide freight savings through centralized load planning and optimization.

“Scotts has partnered with Exel because of its industry-leading expertise and cutting-edge technology and tracking systems,” said Steve Ickes, vice president, North America Operations, Scotts. “Exel is clearly the best choice to assist us with our logistics improvement initiative.”

With Exel working with Scotts to map out a future strategy for transportation and distribution, Scotts will be able to respond to marketplace changes quickly and effectively to maintain a high level of service to its customers.
