Australian start-up launches smart parcel box

Smart Delivery Systems (SDS), an Australia start-up company based in Queanbeyan, has launched a new parcel box. The SDS boxes can be used to take delivery of parcels when the customer is not at home, and will send an electronic notification to the customers’ computer, phone or tablet. So they perform a broadly similar function to the systems from UK-based Pelipod, Belgium’s ParcelHome or the DPD, GLS and Hermes-backed ParcelLock venture.

According to local sources, SDS’s parcel boxes come in four colours and two sizes and prices start at $275.

The boxes feature both a locker for parcels and a smaller slot for regular mail.

According to a report in the Canberra Times, the SDS boxes are currently available in the Canberra and Queanbeyan region, and the company plans to roll them out across Australia later this year.
