Amazon announces plans for new Spanish HQ

Amazon has announced plans for a new, bigger Spanish headquarters, which will be located in Madrid’s business district of Méndez Álvaro. The company plans to open the 12,000 square metre office in summer 2017. The new site will host Amazon’s current 400 corporate employees based at the existing office in Pozuelo de Alarcon and will have a total capacity for more than 1,000 – giving Amazon room to expand and create new jobs.

“E-commerce continues to grow rapidly. As more and more Spanish families chose Amazon.es as their preferred shopping site we plan to keep investing heavily and creating jobs in Spain. We have already hired hundreds of highly talented people here and we are looking forward to hiring hundreds more,” said François Nuyts, Vice President Amazon Spain & Italy.

“As part of our ongoing investment in Spain, we have secured a unique building, where current and future Amazon employees will be working to deliver new products, services and experiences for our customers in Spain and all over the world.”

The new Amazon office will be the south building of Prado Business Park, in Ramírez de Prado Street.

In an official statement about the corporate move posted on its blog on Thursday (14 July), Amazon said that it is “intensively hiring in Spain” at the moment. The company, which currently employs more than 900 people both at its corporate offices and its Fulfilment Center, has over 60 open positions in Madrid.

Amazon moved into its current Spanish HQ in Pozuelo de Alarcon in 2012, a year after the launch of Amazon.es. This June, Amazon also opened in Madrid its Tech Hub in Southern Europe. Located in the Azca neighborhood the site currently hosts over 60 engineers developing new services and features for both Amazon Business, the B2B marketplace of Amazon.com, and the five European websites of Amazon. These tech teams will move to a dedicated space within the new Amazon Corporate building by July 2017.

In addition to its existing Fulfilment Center in San Fernando de Henares, Amazon also recently announced the construction of a second 63,000 square meters logistics site in Barcelona (El Prat), which is expected to start fulfilling customer orders in the fall of 2017.
