BT buys delivery box specialist Pelipod
British Telecommunications has bought the UK-based parcel box company Pelipod. Karl Wills, Managing Director of Pelipod, told Post&Parcel today (27 September) that BT now has acquired full ownership of Pelipod for an undisclosed sum.
“It is an exciting time for Pelipod, as we look forward to integrating our products into BT’s portfolio,” said Wills. “By joining BT, we can expand our capabilities into supporting the customers and markets which BT serves and with access to additional R&D resources on top of my team’s existing capabilities we will look to develop our portfolio even further.
“Pelipod Ltd will continue to sell its solutions outside of BT, both in the UK and abroad.”
“Pelipod will join BT’s Wholesale and Ventures division and I am delighted to be joining their leadership team to oversee the continued growth of Pelipod.”
Wills explained that BT will be looking to build up a national network of Pelipod delivery boxes which it can use both for parts distribution and also forward stock collection for its field service engineers.
“This will give BT an advanced, safe and secure collection process across the whole estate,” said Wills.
Wills anticipates that a network of “thousands” of Pelipod boxes will be installed over the next few years – both in the UK and in other European countries.
“BT will be using the Pelipod network both for its own internal needs, but also to service third parties,” explained Wills. “As a part of BT’s Wholesale and Ventures division, we will be a revenue generating business as well as an internal resource and we will continue to work with other companies.”
Pelipod does have delivery boxes installed on domestic premises, which customers use to receive online shopping purchases and other deliveries, but developing the B2B market will be the main focus of the business.
