DHL Supply Chain buys MIT Safetrans

DHL Supply Chain has bought the Italian logistics provider MIT Safetrans. The deal will ramp up DHL’s logistics offering for the technological, hi-tech and life sciences and healthcare industry in Italy – boosting the company’s presence in Italy to over 800 colleagues and approximately 60 facilities. It is the second purchase of similar type in Italy after acquiring Eurodifarm in 2011. DHL has bought 100% of MIT Safetrans and both parties have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.

Eddy De Vita, President and CEO of DHL Supply Chain Italy, commented: “The acquisition’s strategic value is twofold for us: on the one hand it allows us to extend our services, competences and targets. On the other hand, it allows us to transfer the know-how we have developed in highly specialized and innovative niches into all the other sectors, further fostering our leading position. We are now aiming to assert ourselves as an operator with the largest portfolio of added-value services capable of satisfying the most demanding companies.”

Established in 1983, MIT has a distribution network of about 20 logistics centres through which the company provides highly specialised pre- and post-delivery equipment services. These range from commissioning magnetic resonance machines to ATMs to Biolab services for the sanitation of medicinal products. In 2015, the company reported revenues of €48m and an EBITDA of €6m.
