DHL Supply Chain: new logistics space for the Rhineland

DHL Supply Chain, the division of DHL Group specialising in contract logistics, is expanding its capacities in the Rhineland economic region and is building a new, CO₂-neutral logistics centre in the Wolbersacker industrial area in Rheinbach.

Modern storage and handling areas are being built on a total of 26,600 square meters, which are intended to meet the increasing demand for high-performance logistics solutions in the region. The site is scheduled to start operations in August 2026.

“With the new building at the Rheinbach site, we are responding to the growing demand for flexible and efficient logistics space and making targeted investments in the performance of the Rhineland economic region,” says Katrin Hölter, Chief Executive Officer DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps. “Today’s companies need flexible, scalable logistics space that enables growth while offering short distances to key national and European markets. This is exactly what our location in Rheinbach is designed for. The location makes our customers’ supply chains less susceptible to disruption and at the same time creates the conditions for efficient and climate-friendly logistics, which are increasingly becoming a competitive factor.”

The new DHL building will be constructed to the highest structural standards, the DGNB Gold Standard, and will be equipped with state-of-the-art energy and building technology, including a 1.0 MWp photovoltaic system, a 229 kW battery storage system, efficient heat pumps and energy-optimized LED lighting. The areas are also planned in a modular manner and can be used for classic warehouse processes, e-commerce fulfillment or automated solutions, depending on customer requirements. In this way, DHL is creating additional capacity for companies in a wide range of industries and helping them to make their logistics less emissionary, more flexible and more scalable – important prerequisites for modern, future-proof supply chains.

“We have been seeing high demand for modern logistics space in the region for years,” says Marie Schäfer, Business Unit Director West DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps. “Rheinbach closes an important gap in the market. The direct connection to the A61 motorway and the proximity to Cologne/Bonn and Düsseldorf airports significantly shorten transport times for our customers and thus bring inventories closer to important European sales markets. Thanks to its proximity to the DHL networks and the Port of Duisburg, the location is also integrated into central transport corridors – an advantage for companies that rely on short delivery times and fast, flexible order processing.”

The city of Rheinbach also expects significant impetus for the regional business location. “The establishment of DHL Supply Chain is another significant milestone for the further development of the Wolbersacker industrial park and shows that Rheinbach is attractive for companies from a wide range of industries due to its excellent location quality. DHL Supply Chain is not only setting standards in modern and sustainable construction, but is also creating additional jobs and strengthening the regional business location,” emphasises Mayor Dr. Daniel Phisel.

DHL Supply Chain has already celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the new building. Representatives of the city of Rheinbach and the regional economy emphasized the importance of the project for the development of the location and the strengthening of the regional logistics infrastructure. Among the guests were Katrin Hölter, CEO DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps, Marie Schäfer, Business Unit Director West DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps, and Mayor Dr. Daniel Phiesel.
