Emirates Post Group stops postal services to Qatar

Emirates Post Group has suspended all postal services to Qatar in all its postal offices in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In a notice posted on its website today (8 June), Emirates said that it was acting on the instructions from the Government of the UAE, adding that the stoppage took effect from Wednesday (6 June) and will run “until further notice”.

Emirates Post continued: “This decision also includes advising all customers that apart from temporarily stopping the delivery of mail items to the State of Qatar, all undelivered items will also be returned with corresponding postal fees according to the procedures and regulations.”

The notice from Emirates Post Group gave no explanation for the suspension, but the governments of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain have all been taking steps this week to isolate Qatar over its alleged links to the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas and Iran.
