Business Post appoints head of regulatory affairs for UK Mail division

Former senior regulation manager of Royal Mail, Ian Paterson, has joined Business Post’s UK Mail subsidiary as head of regulatory affairs.
UK Mail is Business Post’s dedicated mail division, set up to provide a postal service to business users across the country. It is at the forefront of the introduction of competition into the UK business mail market and was the first organisation to be awarded a downstream licence by the Postal Commission Services to operate UK mail services. The UK Mail service is scheduled to start operations in late 2003 and will use Royal Mail for the ‘last mile’ delivery of letters and packets.

In addition to managing regulatory affairs for UK Mail, Ian’s role will include working on commercial aspects for the Business Post group. Ian joined Royal Mail in 1992 as marketing and strategic planning manager and held a number of senior posts including head of sales channels and head of payments channels, before becoming senior regulation manager, business and consumer markets in 2001.

Head of UK Mail, Guy Buswell, commented, “Ian’s exposure to the regulatory environment is ideal for our UK Mail business. He has experience in the exact sector in which we operate and will play a pivotal role in the future success of the business. We are delighted he has come on board at such an exciting time.”

Ian graduated from Keble College, Oxford with an MA in Metallurgy, Economics and Management in 1982 and is a member of the Institute of Direct Marketing.
