Malaysia’s Century Logistics gearing up for parcel delivery

Century Logistics Holdings is planning an entry into the Malaysian parcel delivery market. Sources report that Century Logistics (in which the CJ Korea Express is now the largest shareholder, having bought a 31.5% stake in September) has been gearing up its warehousing capability and looking to buy a suitable “mid-size” delivery company.

A recent report in The Star quoted executive director Edwin Yeap as saying that Century Logistics would prefer to buy a company with an existing last-mile delivery offer rather than build up its network from scratch.

Media reports have also speculated that Century Logistics will look to capitalize on its new links with CJ Korea by focusing on the delivery of South Korea products rather than Chinese goods.

While there is a lot of speculation about Century Logistics’ plans, the company itself announced on 16 June that it had been awarded a three-year, non-universal service license by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to operate courier services.
