Irish An Post to stop collecting tv licences
An Post is to stop collecting tv licence fees on behalf of RTE within two years, according to a report.
The business is worth more than €10m a year to the postal agency.
It is to start phasing it out next year and will have fully shed the role by 2005, the Irish Independent reports this morning, quoting unnamed sources.
The paper says the intention to withdraw from licence collection was revealed to senior An Post managers.
It says the reason is the negative image that the business creates among members of the public.
The move is part of a wider shakeup at An Post, which includes the shedding of 1,450 of its 10,500 staff.
The paper says many management jobs will go as An Post brings its three divisions – letter post, SDS and counter services – back under a single management structure.
